Barry Bloss Sr., coroner for York County, said Friday evening that he will not be seeking re-election in 2013.
Bloss is endorsing Steve Cosey, deputy coroner, to take over the position.
Pam Gay, a 51-year-old Registered Nurse from Springettsbury Township, is also running to replace him.Her news release and photo, after jump:
Pam Gay, a 51-year-old Registered Nurse from Springettsbury Township, has announced that she is a Republican candidate for York County Coroner in the 2013 Municipal Primary Election. Her committee name is “A Nurse’s Touch – Pam Gay for Coroner”, and her chairman is State Representative Keith Gillespie, Hellam Township. Pam and her husband, Jeff, are Republican Committee persons for Springettsbury District 3. They have two grown children and a grandchild.
Gay, a native of York Township, grew up on her grandparent’s fruit farm, Fahs’ Orchard, on the parcel now known as Apple Hill. She has been a Registered Nurse for 31 years and has been working as a Forensic RN for 11 years. She is currently employed in York Hospital’s Emergency Department as part of its Forensic Nursing Team, specializing in the care of individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and elder abuse. She also owns a small consulting business, providing medical-legal services to attorneys and insurance companies. She has extensive nursing experience in critical care, pediatric ICU, burn ICU, surgical ICU, neuro ICU, cardiothoracic ICU, medical ICU, geriatrics, neonatal ICU, bone marrow transplant unit, home health nursing, cardiac telemetry unit and oncology. She has taught Health Occupations at York Vo-Tech and Certified Nursing Assistant courses at the adult and high school level. She also has a journalism degree and has worked in Public Relations/Marketing at a high school and a local small business.
She has been a member of the York County Rail Trail Authority since 2004 and is also an active member of Grace Baptist Church, York. She has been active in the Republican Party since the age of 18 and is a member of the York County Republican Club. She was Congressman Todd Platts’ “People for Platts” campaign Treasurer for five years. She is a Member of the American College of Forensic Examiners International and a Member of the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
Gays says, “My mission as coroner is to be professional and dignified during the death investigation process while reaching out to the survivors of loss with caring and compassion.”
