The York County Republican Committee announced Monday that its members would join the York County Democratic Party for a candlelight vigil Tuesday evening to show support for the victims, their families and the entire community of Newtown, Conn.
The vigil will take place from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in downtown York, at Market and George streets.
Democrats announced the plans on Sunday.
“Now is not the time for political differences. It is the time for unity in our communities in support of the families effected by this tragedy. Everyone is welcome to join us as we stand to honor those impacted by the horrific events at Sandy Hook Elementary,” Bob Kefauver, chairman of the York County Democratic Party said in a news release Sunday.
The local GOP sent out a news release Monday.
“Both of our political parties have agreed that this is not the time for any political statements or to push for any type of an agenda. But rather this is the time for all of our communities here in York County to come together and show our support to those who were affected by the horrible event of last week” Bob Wilson, chairman of the York County Republican Committee, said in a news release.
The local Democrats sent an updated news releases a few minutes later, saying the event is now being co-sponsored between the two groups.
