I have a story online about some of the solutions to gun violence lawmakers are considering and debating. Below, the full statement from U.S. Rep. Todd Platts, R-York County:
“As parents, Leslie and I share the overwhelming anguish and heartache that President and Mrs. Obama and all loving and devoted parents throughout the country have felt since learning of last Friday’s horrific tragedy. It is incomprehensible for us that anyone could so wantonly take the lives of the most innocent of innocent – six and seven year-old children, as well as the lives of their teachers and principal. Although there is not any “quick fix” for preventing with absolute certainty such an unthinkable tragedy again in the future, all of us must try our utmost to do so.
“Numerous issues, including the de-sensitizing of our youth to the taking of a life, access to mental health care, improved school security measures, and appropriate and effective measures to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of a mad man such as Friday’s killer, must be addressed in a conscientious and non-political manner. As a nation, we can and must do so much better. Doing so will be a lasting tribute and memorial to all whose lives were so tragically taken. Our family’s prayers are and will continue to be with the friends and family members of the victims.”
