As we reported on Friday, U.S. Rep. Scott Perry, R-York County, voted against a $9.7 billion Superstorm Sandy relief bill. He was joined by U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus, a Republican from Allegheny County, and 65 other Republicans.
Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairman Jim Burn criticized the move. Here’s his statement:
“Last week, Keith Rothfus and Scott Perry sided with the most extreme, Tea Party Republicans to vote against aid for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
“At a time when our country expected politicians to put politics aside and help their fellow Americans, Rothfus and Perry ignore pleas from Democrats, Republicans and Independents to help disaster victims and instead sided with Tea Party extremists. It is a bad start for the two freshmen, if their constituents expected them to support commonsense measures over ideological extremism.”
