Special election for York County House seat to take place with May Primary

The special election to replace state Rep. Eugene DePasquale, D-West Manchester Township, will take place in conjunction with the statewide primary on May 21, state House Speaker Samuel H. Smith announced in a news release.

DePasquale is now the state auditor general.

Here is part of the news release from the state Speaker of the House:

HARRISBURG – Speaker of the House Samuel H. Smith (R-Jefferson County) today announced special elections to fill the vacant 42nd legislative district House seat in Allegheny County and the 95th legislative district House seat in York County will be held in conjunction with the Primary Election on Tuesday, May 21.

Smith filed the two writs of election, the formal document setting the date of a special election, with the Department of State. The vacancy in the 42nd district was created by the resignation of former Rep. Matt Smith to become a state senator; the writ was Jan. 8. The vacancy in the 95th district was created Jan. 17 upon the resignation of former Rep. Eugene DePasquale to become the Commonwealth’s auditor general; the writ was issued Jan. 15.
