Commissioners on Wednesday approved increasing the private pay rate for room and board at the county nursing home from $245 per day to $250 per day, starting April 1.
Last year, the rate increased by $10 per day, county officials said.
“This is just representative of our cost increase,” said nursing home administrator Marlin Peck.
The rate is all-inclusive, he said.
“We don’t charge separate for a glass of orange juice,” Peck said.
The nursing home has about 18 private pay patients out of about 360, according to Peck. But it is common for patients to be private ones before spending down their own money and going on Medicaid.
York County leaders have been looking for ways to reduce the cost of owning the nursing home. The county subsidizes the facility.
Peck said the nursing home has been working on other ways to reduce the subsidy.
“We just said come up with ideas and present them to us, so we can take a look at them,” said York County Commissioner Doug Hoke.
