Judge rules that Republican county controller candidate can be on ballot

York County President Judge Stephen P. Linebaugh ruled in favor of Republican county controller candidate Bonner Smith, saying he can remain on the May 21 primary ballot.

Smith’s paperwork was challenged by Robb Green, the incumbent county controller who is seeking re-election.

Linebaugh ruled that 99 of the signatures on Smith’s nomination petition are invalid, but he said 291 signatures still remain. The threshold is 250 valid signatures.

Linebaugh did have criticism for Smith’s “seemingly haphazard approach to getting signatures.”

“The Court would like to admonish any individuals seeking public office to be conscientious in complying with the requirements for a proper Nomination Petition,” Linebaugh added.

Linebaugh did order Smith to amend his nomination petition and statement of financial disclosure.
