York County commissioners on Wednesday approved providing $150,000 for an extension of the Heritage Rail Trail County Park.
The county funding would match a state grant, that the York County Rail Trail Authority plans to apply for. The total cost for the project would be $300,000, according to Gwen Loose, executive director of the York County Rail Trail Authority.
Much of the extension would be located in North York.
Loose said she expects to hear if the project is chosen for a Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant in November or December of this year.
Construction could begin in late 2014 and be completed in January 2015.
The county funding could either come from Marcellus Legacy Fund money or county contingency money.
