Tom Wolf hires campaign manager for governor’s race

Tom Wolf

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Wolf announced his campaign manager on Monday.

“Pennsylvania native Joe Shafer, fresh off managing special and reelection wins for a Democrat in the West Virginia governor’s race, and who is considered one of the most experienced and capable strategists in our party, has agreed to come home to Pennsylvania to manage my campaign,” Wolf said in a message to supporters.  “I’m lucky to have Joe on board.”

Wolf, a York County businessman who served as state revenue secretary under former Gov. Ed Rendell, announced  earlier this month that he will seek his party’s nomination to challenge Republican Gov. Tom Corbett in the 2014 election.

The full message, after the jump:

Dear friend,

Last week, Gov. Corbett gave us three fresh reasons why he shouldn’t be re-elected:

  1. A court ordered the governor to release part of his schedule that he’s been hiding from the public.
  2. A new report says Pennsylvania is losing hundreds of millions of dollars in health care funding because of Gov. Corbett’s refusal to expand Medicaid under President Obama’s health reform law.
  3. And new figures show that Gov. Corbett’s misplaced policies have damaged our economy and left Pennsylvania ranked 49th in job creation over the past year.

Unfortunately, we didn’t need any more reasons for change.  Instead of tapping Pennsylvania’s potential, this governor has wasted it.

I believe we can do so much better.  That’s why I’ve been traveling across the Commonwealth in recent weeks, listening to people who have lost their jobs; people who work three jobs and still can’t get ahead; and people in every corner of Pennsylvania who are down on their luck through no fault of their own.

It’s time for economic fairness in Pennsylvania.  Fairness for regular people all across the Commonwealth who work hard and play by the rules, yet get punished while the politically-connected friends of Gov. Corbett get rewarded by his policies in  Harrisburg. And that’s what my campaign for Governor is about.

Our campaign’s off to a strong start.  From Johnstown to Scranton to Pittsburgh to State College, we’ve hit the road to listen to the concerns of the people across this state.  We’ve also started hiring a top-notch, talented staff that will help us run a campaign we can all be proud of.

Pennsylvania native Joe Shafer, fresh off managing special and reelection wins for a Democrat in the West Virginia governor’s race, and who is considered one of the most experienced and capable strategists in our party, has agreed to come home to Pennsylvania to manage my campaign.  I’m lucky to have Joe on board.

The coming weeks are a critical time for working people, as Gov. Corbett continues to try to privatize Pennsylvania’s assets–benefiting a favored few at the expense of all Pennsylvanians.  We must come together to protect middle-class families from Gov. Corbett’s dangerous, special-interest agenda.

Thanks for joining us in this effort to bring fairness to the people of the Commonwealth.

Sincerely,
Tom Wolf
