York County businessman Tom Wolf is one of the Democratic gubernatorial candidates who will participate in a forum June 5 in Harrisburg, according to an event organizer.
Alan Kennedy-Shaffer, president of Harrisburg Hope, which describes itself as a grassroots, community group, said Wolf is one of four candidates who has confirmed, as of Thursday.
The forum will begin at 6 p.m. at Midtown Scholar Bookstore, 1302 N. 3rd St., Harrisburg. The event is open to the public, and Kennedy-Shaffer said audience members will have the chance to ask questions directly.
“We expect the topics to include the state budget, education, the environment and other issues of importance,” Kennedy-Shaffer said.
Kennedy-Shaffer said Gov. Tom Corbett was also invited, but has not replied.
Kennedy-Shaffer said some people have asked why they are hosting a forum so early — the gubernatorial primary and general election aren’t until 2014. He said there are two main reasons.
“Once the campaign gets going in earnest, the candidates will be spending a lot more time in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh,” he said. “…And, two, Gov.Corbett’s approval ratings are so low that …. challengers are emerging much earlier than in previous gubernatorial campaigns.”
