Poll: Should York County deduct money from inmate accounts to pay victims?

For Sunday’s paper, I wrote about how Don O’Shell has been suggesting that the York County Prison should deduct money from inmate accounts to pay back victims.

“The fact that they’re sitting in jail should not give them a pass,” said O’Shell, clerk of courts for the county.

York County Commissioner Chris Reilly said prison officials have some administrative and security concerns.

  1. Melissa says:

I don’t think that it should be deducted from the inmates accounts because this isn’t money they are earning. This is money their families or friends are putting in there which means it is not the inmate paying what they owe but the family/friends who are paying it. If the inmate is on work release then yes it should be deducted.

  2. This seems like a no-brainer.
