Snow corners

I always smile when I see real estate ads that proudly proclaim: corner property.

Our home is on a corner property. I enjoy the addition space, the addition breezes, the additional sunlight. I don't even mind the extra lawn mowing.

What I dislike is clearing the sidewalks. Corner properties have at least twice as much sidewalks as other homes on the block. That means extra lawn edging in the warm weather and extra snowblowing or shoveling in snowy weather.

Like Saturday. My snowblower is only 18 inches high. It labored to make a dent in the 24 inches of snow (not counting drifts) that piled up around our place. That meant most of the work was done by us wielding shovels.

As for the sidewalks? There's another "challenge" of living on a corner: Snow plows. I wait until the snow plows came through late at night before tackling the sidewalks. I know from past experience that a lot of that snow gets pushed back towards (and on) the sidewalks.

Township ordinances say sidewalks are supposed to be cleared 24 hours after the snow stops falling. How about amending that to say: 24 hours after the last snow plow runs up and down the street?
