I'm not the only one spotting ducks in the city.
On Tuesday night, Charlotte Bergdoll told the York City Council there are two ducks and two roosters living at a city residence near a property she owns.
She asked if it was legal to have them, and the answer wasn't clear. One duck wanders onto her property, she said. She asked if she can she have the duck arrested for trespassing.

Toni Smith should have the answer to this at her fingertips - she was behind a city ordinance a couple of years ago about farm animals not being allowed in the city limits - there was a family on East Market St that has chickens and ducks and one of Toni's faithful had enough so she asked Toni to get rid of them which lead to another useless city ordinance outlawing farm animals in the city - check the archives from YDR and you will find an article from about 5 or 6 years ago.
Thanks for writing, Jane. I did some more research after I wrote this entry. It looks like the ordinance regarding farm animals was struck down by a judge in 2003. I also dug through the city's codified ordinances. Regarding animals, the law says caged birds (which excludes wild birds and poultry) are allowed.
