Recycling mess

Is it too much to ask that people put their trash in trash cans?

I made the (admittedly stupid) mistake of forgetting to retrieve my recycling bin from the sidewalk before I headed to work Tuesday.

I'm not sure how I forgot, honestly. I was kind of grumpy that morning after being awoken by the clattering and clanging of recyclables being picked up.

But, I forgot. When I returned home from work, someone in my building had been kind enough to grab the bin and place it outside my door.

But it was full of things I was not so happy to see. Apparently everyone who walked down my street decided to use my neglected recycling bin as a trash receptacle. It was full of cans (which I'm actually OK with, since they are recyclable), soggy pieces of paper, a mangled beer carton, and a dripping Popsicle stick accompanied by a sticky wrapper.

Ew.

I waited for the bin to dry before cleaning it up. I suppose I've learned my lesson, which is to make sure I pick up my recycling bin in the morning. Maybe I should just be happy the litter wasn't left all over the sidewalk?

Isnt it better they threw it in there than on the street? Be happy.
