Something for Sunday

I was excited to hear that Martin Library is planning to open on Sundays from Sept. 21 to Dec. 21.

Library officials told the newspaper that use has gone up in the past few years, so they're going to give the Sunday hours a try and see how it goes.

I think it's great.

Sunday seems to be the day I always think about heading to the library, for some reason. It's just a good day when my calendar is usually pretty clear and I'm hunting for something to do.

Since many things are closed on Sundays in York, there aren't too many options. The York Emporium's a good place to spend a Sunday afternoon. But many places don't open, and I can understand why. If I were a small-business owner, I'd want a day off, too. And they'd have to be sure to have enough business to make opening worthwhile.

But having the library open is a good start. Could this lead to other city spots opening their doors on Sundays?
