Queen Street turf war

| | Comments (1)
So I come home last night and find a flyer wedged under the door to my apartment building from the Downtown East Neighborhood Association.

They've got an annual dinner, they'd like me to attend, it costs $20, my eloquent, thoughtful boss, Jim McClure will speak on York history, etc.

I'm invited they say, because the first block of South Queen Street is part of the Downtown East neighborhood and as such, part of the Downtown East Neighborhood Association.

I bet the Olde Towne East Neighborhood Association begs to differ.

You see, Olde Towne East has invited me to all of its dinners, block parties, gatherings, pot lucks and whatever else they hold. (It should be noted that I have never attended any of this stuff, but they all seem like nice people.

They've given me these flyers for the better part of four years. They've given me a sense of place.

Now I'm confused.

Where do I live?

Olde Towne East -- lots of e's -- or Downtown East, which has York's "oldest neighborhood association" according to the flyer.

I just want a ruling.

Jeff,

I was just googling some neighborhood associations to see where our new house lies in relationship to the NA and remembered your post when I found this map:

York Neighborhood Assoc Map

It looks like several areas are covered by multiple associations, yet others have none. I think you need to add another association to your war, if you still live where you used to.

Cheers,
PFR
