Downtown bar mystery solved (for now)

Are we at the Hardware Bar or the Bourbon Street Saloon?

One of the most confusing things about the downtown nightlife scene has to be the Hardware Bar complex. It seems to be suffering from an identity crisis. Bars have changed names and locations several times during the past two years with little explanation. (Don't count on the Web site to help solve the mystery.)

At one point this summer, there were Bourbon Street Saloon and York Hardware Bar signs on the same building. City reporter Angie Mason, photographer Kate Penn and I have been trying to get a handle on the situation recently. I'm not sure if local clubbers care where they shake their moneymakers. After a few drinks, they might not remember, but here's the updated listing:

Bourbon Street Saloon and Evolution are at 25 W. Market St.

Market Street Saloon is at 29 W. Market.

Clubs Vertigo and Reflex are at 12 W. Market St.

The York Hardware Bar no longer exists.

What a waste down there. Those were decent places until the clientel shifted. The Market St. Saloon had good food, Rain was a chill place, Vertigo is where you could dance and the back room of the hardware had the a flavor of the month.. meaning it changed themes almost monthly. Now I won't set foot in there, aside from the previously mentioned complaint, the service was poor and drinks were over priced. Oh how the "mighty" have fallen.

If what's going on in that photo is what I think is going on then it's another reason not to be in York after dark! He no doubt left the place, got in his car & drove off. That's scary as hell.
I suspect someday we'll be reading about his DUI arrest, hopefully, not after he's killed people with his irresponsibility. She's a real charmer too!

Honestly that isn't any worse than any other straight liquor shot. As stingy as they are down there, I can assure you they weren't pouring copious amounts anywhere, cups included!
