Parking meter stickers

Anybody else notice these around town?

meter2.jpgI spotted these stickers on the parking meters in my block a week or so ago. It seems like a good idea to make people aware of the meter hours and such, even though the stickers probably can't be expected to last long, as a friend pointed out.

But maybe a week before I saw these stickers, someone stopped me in my block to ask me the hours for meters. And once, as I plugged a meter on George Street on a weekday, a passerby wrongly assured me that I didn't need to since it was about 6:15 p.m. So, looks like there are some people who could use the extra info.

But I parked in the first block of Market Street the other night and didn't see any stickers there. I've been trying to reach the parking bureau to see what's up, and I haven't heard back.

These stickers are very helpful. I was told by soneone connected to the York Historic Trust the reason they're so busy on Saturdays is the meters do not require money on Saturdays. This sticker says otherwise. The stickers also are a reminder that meters accept dimes and nickels in addition to quarters, which I keep forgetting.
But one has to wonder why coins are required as late in the day as 6:30. Do not county offices and other businesses shut down at 4:30 or by 5:30?

Hi, Jo -- I looked through our archives a bit, and it looks like the parking meter hours used to be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but they were extended (to 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.mm.) in 2006. It looks like it was basically a move to bring in revenue.
I'm still looking around to see if these stickers are anywhere else.

I went into the York Country Heritage Trust on Saturday, I did not see the sticker and none of the cars parked around me had their money in their meters. Not knowing I didn't want to take a chance so I put two hours of money in my meter.

I ask other people in their and they said that you don't need to put money in on Saturday. So I take it people don't know about the stickers, I didn't.

Hi, Gloria -- Thanks for the input. I'm going to double check when I go home and see if the stickers are still in my block. I just left (another) message at the parking bureau to see if I can get any answers. Here's what it says on the city's Web site about parking meters:

Enforcement Hours:
8:00 am to 6:30 pm daily
Meter parking is free on Sundays and holidays observed by the City of York
