Swine flu

| | Comments (0)
If you're worried about the swine flu, there are some links on the city's Web site to guide you to information. Look for the green box in the upper-right-hand corner. There's information in Spanish, too.

The city sent out a press release today reminding you to wash your hands to prevent the spread of the flu. It seems so simple.

People pick up germs by hand-to-hand contact, foods, contaminated surfaces and animals, among other things, according to the release.

Read on for tips on exactly how to wash your hands.
The city says:

"How to properly wash your hands:

1. Get your hands wet with warm water and apply soap to hands (liquid or a bar).  Lather well and rub together firmly.
2. Rub your hands together firmly, for roughly 15-20 seconds.  Teach your children to sing "Happy Birthday" two times, which will take them roughly 20 seconds.
3. Remember to scrub your whole hand (fingers, between fingers, palms, back of hands, under the fingernails, and even wrists).
4. Rinse your hands well with warm water.
5. Use a clean towel or disposable paper towel to dry off hands.
6. Use a towel to turn off the faucet.

How to properly use hand sanitizer:
1.   Place roughly ½ teaspoon of the sanitizer on the palm of your hand.
2. Rub hands together firmly, making sure to cover the whole hand (fingers, between fingers, palms, back of hands, under the fingernails, and even wrists), until dry.
3. Do not wipe excess off with a towel; let it dry!"
