City Hall closed during holiday

I walked about six blocks Thursday to City Hall from my Queen Street apartment to pay for my monthly parking tag. Every month my new tag is mailed to me, but in an effort to save a few cents on a stamp and see what’s going on downtown, I’ll walk to the office to pay the $28 to park outside my home.

But it wasn’t open today. I walked inside to a dark City Hall, with a simple sign in the middle of the floor that read: “City Hall is closed today.”

I figured offices would be closed Christmas Eve, but not the day before. This was my last chance to get things taken care of before I head to Ohio to visit my boyfriend’s family.

After searching the city’s website and even calling the main number, I found no answer to when they would reopen.

I get back to York a day or two before New Years, but I’m not crossing my fingers that they’ll be open much next week. It’s a guessing game at this point, and one in which I’ll guess that sacrificing a stamp will save me the 20 minutes I could waste walking back to City Hall.
