Guess who turned 80 this year? No, not former Councilwoman Toni Smith. (Although, she’s close at 78.) It’s actually John Williams.
You know Williams. He’s the Academy Award-winning conductor and composer who wrote the scores for some of your favorite movies — Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter and Jaws, just to name a few.
To celebrate Williams’ 80th birthday, the Avenues Neighborhood Association will be sponsoring a free concert by the Spring Garden Band in the Farquhar Park Bandstand between 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday, The concert will feature Williams’ music.
Participants should bring their own chair or blanket, and picnics are welcome. The Avenues Neighborhood Association will sell popcorn and cold drinks.
