Preparing meals for hundreds of kids a day takes a lot of work. But it takes even more effort to ensure those meals are nutritious, popular among students and in line with government standards.
With pressure from the media, pop culture and politicians, school lunch programs are on their way to becoming healthier. Legislation on the brink of approval in the U.S. House (already approved in the Senate) would mandate major changes. Meanwhile, schools work within their means to make improvements along the lunch line.

Schools around the county are making improvements to their lunch programs by providing healthier options and more local, fresh produce. (YORK DAILY RECORD/SUNDAY NEWS — KATE PENN)
About this blog
I try to live a healthy life. My health obsession likely began as worry, about illness, death and dieting, but later intrigued me to learn more about often-complex subjects. I try to educate myself every day, in little ways, to improve my quality of life through nutrition, exercise and medicine. This blog is a place to share knowledge about happy and healthy living in York County. Contact me at lzaleski@ydr.com.
