About this blog
I try to live a healthy life. My health obsession likely began as worry, about illness, death and dieting, but later intrigued me to learn more about often-complex subjects. I try to educate myself every day, in little ways, to improve my quality of life through nutrition, exercise and medicine. This blog is a place to share knowledge about happy and healthy living in York County. Contact me at lzaleski@ydr.com.

Time to let go of garden
I gave up on gardening. I wouldn’t call myself a quitter, but I don’t force things if they’re not working out. I’m OK with my first-attempt failure. However, I’ve learned a lot from my experience as a community gardener, which … Continue reading

R.I.P. cucumbers

Cucumber, tomato and feta salad
I had Sunday dinner plans with my friends Adam and Josh, and I was running out of time. We sometimes cook dinner together. If they plan most of the dinner, I usually bring a side dish and some wine. The … Continue reading

Holy cucumber!
I gasped the first time I saw a cucumber in my garden. Just days early, there had been only plants. At the start of this week, there were a few cukes, about 2 inches long, shaded by the leaves. I … Continue reading

Lesson grows from grapefruit seed
My dad taught me how to make things grow. Our backyard was lush with produce for the earlier part of my childhood, and I remember him including me on a few kid friendly experiments. I asked him one day about … Continue reading

Gardening feels good
I’ve heard that gardening can be therapeutic. Lately, I’ve had a lot going on. I’m maid of honor in my cousin’s wedding this weekend, which has resulted in a lot of fun events in the past couple of months, but … Continue reading

Soon-to-be amateur gardener
I grew up in a garden. I remember my mom asking me as a child to run out to the yard and pull her a scallion for a fresh dinner salad and the vibrant red tomatoes that my dad grew. … Continue reading
