It’s George M. Leader and Tom Ridge on the same ticket.
Well, former Pennsylvania Republican Gov. Ridge will help applaud the life and accomplishments of former Pennsylvania Democratic Gov. Leader at an Oct. 3 banquet at the Yorktowne Hotel. (Call 848-1587 for reservations.)
The banquet is designed to raise money for a York County Heritage Trust education endowment in Leader’s name. Leader took Pennsylvania’s top office 50 years ago.
York County has produced two lieutenant governors — Chauncey F. Black in the 1880s and Samuel S. Lewis in the late 1930s.
It was home to at least five state Supreme Court justices: Hugh Henry Brackenridge, Ellis Lewis, Jeremiah S. Black, Jacob Hay Brown and Herbert Cohen.
It has spawned at least four U.S. senators — James Ross, John Rowan, David Holmes and Matthew Quay.
But only one Pennsylvania governor hails from York County — George M. Leader.
