Central York grad and U.S. Mint sculptor/engraver Don Everhart is back in the news.
He designed the John Quincy Adams image on the front of the soon-to-be-released new dollar coin that is part of presidential series. And that's his Statue of Liberty will be on the back of the new James Monroe, Adams, Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren coins... .
Everhart's John Hancock, or at least his D.E., is on all the coins he designs, as reported in this York Daily Record story in 2007:
Sometimes, it takes a little convincing to make people believe that Don Everhart is an artist, even when the person he is trying to persuade is carrying samples of his designs in their pocket.Perhaps it would help if his signatures weren't so small. But Everhart, a 1967 graduate of Central York High School, said the U.S. Mint doesn't give him much space to sign the coins he designs for them.
"It would take a magnifying glass to see them," he said. "But the initials D.E. are on all of my coins."
