In clear view: The York County Honors Choir sings in a performance soon after its creation in 1999. The choir is made of up students from high schools throughout York County.
Behind the scene: The honors choir continues to perform today, the most visible legacy of the massive 250th anniversary of York County. The county was founded in 1749, the fifth formed in Pennsylvania and the first west of the Susquehanna. That goes back a bit and bears a mother lode of history to celebrate. So the sesquicentennial commitee went all out in sponsoring the birthday party. The honors choir performs concerts of its own and is increasingly teamed with other youth arts organizations for concerts.
Further details: Another legacy of the anniversary is the three-volume "250th Chronicles," a compilation of York Daily Record, York Sunday News and York Dispatch articles on achievers in York County's first 250 years. The volumes are available via the York County Library System.
