In 2008, 8 top candidates or their families campaigned in York County

The canon is sealed on candidate visits to York for Election 2008.
Chelsea Clinton was the first dignitary to stump way back in April when her mother was still a candidate.
Veep candidate Sarah Palin was the last, appearing Friday, Oct. 31. Joe Biden was the only candidate among the four presidential and vice presidential entries not to show.

VISITORS
Other presidential candidates or their family members have visited locally this year, including:
Cindy McCain: The wife of the Republican presidential nominee stopped in at the local campaign headquarters in Springettsbury Township Oct. 19 to thank about 100 volunteers present for their efforts.
Joe McCain: The candidate’s brother attended the York County Republican Victory Dinner Oct. 7. He addressed a group of 450 in West Manchester Township.
Barack Obama: The Democratic presidential candidate toured the Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation plant Sept. 4 in West Manchester Township, speaking with employees. He also took questions from people in a group of 50 gathered in the plant parking lot.
John McCain: About 4,000 people turned out Aug. 12 at the York Expo Center’s Toyota Arena to hear the Republican presidential candidate speak.
Hillary Clinton: The then-Democratic presidential candidate made a stop in York April 19 and spoke to a crowd of about 800 at Market and Beaver streets.
Michelle Obama: The wife of the then-Democratic presidential candidate hopeful spoke to a capacity-filled Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York April 15.
Chelsea Clinton: Hillary Clinton’s daughter spoke on her behalf April 2 to about 100 students gathered at York College. She also stopped at Clearview Elementary School in Hanover later that day.
In addition, some prominent supporters have stopped by. They include:
For Obama: U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey.
For McCain: former U.S. senator and actor Fred Thompson, U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman, former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge.
