Red Lion’s Scott Fitzkee ranks as York/Adams Greatest Athlete

Red Lion’s Scott Fitzkee has been named the greatest prep athlete in York and Adams counties history. Background posts: Story answers much about great athlete Hinkey Haines, including origin of his nickname and Central York High School’s Laura Beveridge: ‘I certainly have not forgotten her’ and York athlete series: ‘Arguably the best girls’ volleyball player the area has ever seen’.
The votes are in, and former three-sport Red Lion star Scott Fitzkee reigns as York/Adams’ Greatest Athlete, as put forth by the York Daily Record/Sunday News. (For the top 25, click here.)

  1. Jackie Penn Cochran says:

I always thought my son Aaron was one the most best Athletes in York County. He played team ball, He played the game of football to win, not jjust to make a name for himself. He always thought of the the games as we play as a team not as one person. He never said a bad word about anyone and he always had something good to say about everyone. He bought a lot of joy and happiness to alot of people.

Chris Doleman was easily the best athlete on this list, his bust appears in Canton Ohio and that says it all…I wish people would get there head out of their a–

    • Jim McClure says:

Keith, good point. Not sure this is the case with Chris, but some athletes blossomed post-high school. Green Bay Packer John Kuhn wasn’t named Dover’s best athlete, and he wasn’t the leading rusher in Dover history. But look at him now. Having said that, Chris Doleman would have to be York County’s most accomplished athlete in the past 50 years, supported by the Hall of Fame vote.

      Thanks for weighing in./Jim
