"The Picket" stood in the center of Hanover's Center Square for years. It has since been moved to a corner of that intersection. This image comes from Scott Mingus' blog "Cannonball." Civil War author, lecturer and blogger Scott L. Mingus, Sr. will lead personalized guided tours of various sites in York County linked to the Confederate invasion of Pennsylvania in 1863.

This scene shows York Valley Inn, courtesy of Scott Mingus Cannonball blog and the Library of Congress. On the early afternoon June 28, 1863, Mingus wrote, more than 1,000 rebel soldiers camped around the old inn. "They had marched from their overnight camp around the hamlet of Farmers in Paradise Township through the town of York, not stopping to eat their noon meal until arriving at the prosperous inn," he wrote.
Individual sites and tours include the Skirmish of Wrightsville and the burning of the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge; York under the Rebel Flag; Hanover Junction, the Battle of Hanover, and J.E.B. Stuart's Ride through York County.
Tours are done on an open schedule to be mutually determined, and will last between 2 and 4 hours depending upon the topic and interest level.

These individual tours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis as time allows. Group tours are also welcomed by contacting YCHT directly.
Typically, the tours are 2 hours in length and I include handouts and / or maps of the historical situation during the Civil War.
