Trees, trains and chainsaws merge in Stewartstown, Pa.

Besser’s, on the Susquehanna Trail, a favorite pitstop for motorists

Besser’s, a major restaurant, lodging spot along the trail south of Loganville, must have been marketing minded. People have postcards showing the camp from all angles in their collections. “Received this postcard from a local resident,” Doug Winemiller of Stewartstown Historical Society, wrote. “I have no idea of the date.”

Codorus Creek, then a recreational venue, and 4 other memorable postcard views of York County, Pa.

The Hartley Boat Club sat next to the Codorus Creek south of York, Pa., south of Kings Mill, as seen in 1914. It pointed to the day when the Codorus was widely used for recreation, a theme some York officials are seeking to revisit today.

York countians are discovering Brigadoon-like Bedford, Pa., Part II

Route 30, the old Lincoln Highway, runs through Bedford, Pa. As it emerges from its west side, the old run produces sites and sights of interest, as old roads often do. Here is the famed roadside attraction, the Coffee Pot. Such oversized attractions often went up along old highways to woo motorists their way.

York’s First Friday art exhibit ‘Bringing the River to the City’ – Linked in to York County, Pa., history, 3/28/13

York, Pa.’s, First Friday visitors will have an opportunity to see a special art exhibit featuring Visions of the Susquehanna art. This art, as the name suggests, provides scenes along the Susquehanna River. The art was captivating when exhibited at York College of Pennsylvania several years ago, and some of the pieces are part of the permanent collection of the Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area.
