A big week for York County, Pa., sports: Ron Wolf, Bruce Arians and John Kuhn score national honors

New Freedom, Pa.’s Ron Wolf is seen with new Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman in 2000. Wolf has gained a spot in the NFL Hall of Fame, the second person with York County roots to do so. York High’s Chris Doleman was voted in last year.

The YDR’s Throwback Thursday series starts with an interview with West York’s Travis Hoffman, who threw ‘The Pass’ that enabled Kennard-Dale’s Adam Miller to score his 2,000th point in front of a home crowd. Here’s Travis’ take on that 1990s moment prep basketball moment: ‘”I scored over 1,000 career points, but I am forever remembered for a turnover! Playing Kennard-Dale and in my opinion, the best player in the history of York County basketball, Adam Miller, we were getting blown out.’

Prep sports season start brings question: Who is the greatest athlete from York County?

The start of the prep football season brings to mind a former York, Pa., High athlete who is now in the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Chris Doleman is seen in his high school photo. He went on to football greatness at the University of Pittsburgh and then in pro ball with the Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons.
