This showpiece York County, Pa., barn burned down about a decade ago

This was one of ‪York County, Pa.‬’s best-known barns – and we have many grand barns – before it burned to the ground in 2006. It was visible from a major road and intended to be an accessible county showpiece. Where did this barn stand? Memories of this very public farm, in the past or present?

York, Pa.’s ‘Welcome/Do Not Enter’ eastern gateway: ‘Talk about mixed messages’

The question has come up before. How can a welcoming city tell westbound motorists on the old Lincoln Highway to ‘Do Not Enter.’ And it’s a good question. And it was raised by someone, York Sunday News columnist Gordon Freireich, who is a leader in an organization, York Rotary, who is doing something about York’s greetings to motorists. Rotary’s ‘Welcome to York’ monument greets motorists moving into York from the south.
