FlipsidePa.com offers this game: Can you spot York County’s art? This mural observes the influence of railroading in New Freedom borough. In that small town, the Northern Central Railway and the Stewartstown Railroad met for about 125 years starting in the 1800s. Farmers and other agribusinesses from Fawn Grove to New Freedom could transport their goods via the Stewartstown RR to the Northern Central, later the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Fighting in cramped World War II aircraft like those at York Airport? ‘I just couldn’t imagine.’

The Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom Tour landed at Thomasville’s York Airport this week, stayed ‘a while’ and then flew away leaving some visitors marveling. Fighting in the tight quarters of those World War II planes? ‘I just couldn’t imagine,’ York Township’s Don Bradley said. Here, he walks through a Consolidated B-24J Liberator.

U.S. 30 Drag-O-Way, Part 4: York County’s love affair with its cars

Remember the U.S. 30 Drag-O-Way? The dragstrip, operating at the York Airport in Thomasville, was the place to go on Saturday nights. It closed in 1979, but it lives on in the lives of the many car clubs around York County and the Musclecar Madness event every July at the York Expo Center.
